How to score it
Assess the patient's ability to move from lying on their back to sitting on the side of the bed, with no back support. It is NOT required that the patient's feet be flat on the floor for the activity to count as completed — that requirement was removed from this item in the OASIS-E instrument. Score the level of assistance typically required; setup (05) means the helper only adjusts pillows/blankets or positions the bed — the patient performs the movement themselves.
The common error
Confusing this with GG0170B (Sit to Lying), which assesses the reverse movement — moving FROM sitting TO lying down, not lying to sitting. Also: scoring 'setup' (05) when the helper is actually providing physical stabilization during the movement, which should be 'supervision or touching assistance' (04) at minimum.
