02Substantial/maximal assistance
01Dependent

How to score it

Assess the patient's ability to get on and off a toilet (with or without a raised seat) or bedside commode. Toileting hygiene, clothing management, getting to/from the toilet, and bedpan transfers are excluded — those belong to GG0130C, Toileting hygiene. Code 05, Setup or clean-up assistance, if a helper only positions/removes a bedside commode or a toilet-seat riser before or after the transfer, with no assistance during the transfer itself. Code 01, Dependent, if two or more helpers are needed. See Guidance Manual Ch. 3 GG item-by-item tips for full scoring rubric.

The common error

Folding toileting hygiene or clothing-management assistance into this item's score — CMS scores that effort under GG0130C, Toileting hygiene, not under GG0170F, which covers only the physical transfer on and off the toilet or commode.
