Response options
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| NA | No Medicare |
How to score it
Record the patient's Medicare Beneficiary Identifier (MBI) — the 11-character alphanumeric identifier on the patient's Medicare card. If the patient has no Medicare coverage, use code NA. iQIES validates this against the CMS eligibility file at submission.
The common error
Entering the legacy Health Insurance Claim Number (HICN — SSN-based) instead of the MBI. The MBI replaced the HICN in 2019; CMS no longer accepts HICN values.
