How to score it
The 14-day lookback ends at the SOC/ROC date (or, for Discharge, the M0090 date); the SOC/ROC date itself counts as day 0. Code 1, Yes, if the patient was prescribed an antibiotic in that window specifically for a confirmed or suspected UTI, or if a patient on prophylactic treatment developed a UTI anyway. Code 0, No, if there was no UTI treatment in the window — including when a positive culture or UTI symptoms existed but the physician didn't prescribe treatment, or the treatment course ended more than 14 days ago. Code NA if the patient is on prophylactic UTI-prevention treatment (and did not develop a UTI). The UK (Unknown) option is omitted at Discharge. Dash is not a valid response for this item.
The common error
Coding 1, Yes, whenever the patient has a standing prophylactic antibiotic order — prophylaxis alone codes NA; code 1 only applies if that prophylactic patient goes on to actually develop a UTI during the 14-day window.
